Free, that's the word that probably best characterises Maryam Nassir Zadeh. Born in Iran in 1977, the young woman was quickly overcome by an all-consuming love of fashion. Determined to make it her career, she flew to the United States where she went on to study the industry, whose principles and values she was desperate to redefine. In just a few years, she made a name for herself and acquired an impressive reputation, thanks in particular to her subtle but singular eye for design, enabling her to detect and anticipate trends. Her concept store became a mecca for American fans of luxury (and often quite niche) fashion, to whom she gradually introduced French labels including Lemaire and jumus. At the same time, she gave birth to her eponymous label in 2012. It's a womenswear label that combines childhood memories, Iranian roots and tributes to her many travels, all through a delicate and minimalist style. Chic, casual and relaxed, the essence of Maryam Nassir Zadeh lies in her ability to captivate and charm through an uninhibited - almost stark - simplicity. The designer hides behind no artifice, no embellishment. In her collections, no sequins, garish colours or excessive volumes. The allure is in the detail, with revealing lace fabrics and masculine jackets to cover and protect the bathing suits and light dresses. With the addition of nostalgic embroideries, her collections - inspired by a variety of influences - continued to impress, eventually finding their way into the very selective line-up of New York fashion week. To perfect her liberated silhouettes, Maryam Nassir Zadeh also designs high-end accessories with a universal style that everyone can enjoy. Designed to be comfy and practical yet elegant, her shoes are supported by heels at a reasonable height.
